As we approach the end of 2021 — a year of challenges, innovation, and creativity for our Paris and London architectural practices — we thought we’d share some positive news stories that emerged for us during this turbulent time.
So, whether you’ve been keeping up to date with all things RBA, or you’re new to the world of data center developments and office revivals, delve deep into our accomplishments ready for a fresh (and hopefully brighter) New Year.
- Celebrating 10 years of Global Switch Paris West Data Center
It’s hard to believe that 10 years have passed since the RBA team finished work on the Global Switch Paris West data center in Clichy-La-Garenne, France.
We provided Global Switch Paris with one of the largest data centers – in terms of surface area and electrical power supply – that France has ever seen. And ten years on, we’re still as proud of it now as we were when we finished. Read what RBA co-founder, Alex Reid had to say about the iconic project.
- Alex Reid, the radio star
Reid Brewin Architects co-founder, Alex Reid, was invited to take part in a discussion live on France Inter – a major French public radio channel – talking about ‘all-things-data centers’ as part of a weekly segment, titled ‘Things in the City’.
Catch up on the key talking points, here.
- Building a roof garden atop Paris’ KDDI Data Centre Léon Frot
Working in partnership with the Bureau d’Études de Gally – experts in urban biodiversity and agriculture – the Reid Brewin Architects team was appointed to bring to life KDDI France’s vision for a garden on the roof of its new, 1,121 sqm data center.
With over 100 offices worldwide – including more than 40 data centers – when it came to refurbishing its latest outpost, KDDI wanted a development that echoed their environmental commitments, while also integrating into the life of the neighbourhood and surrounding urban landscape.
- Renovation concepts for a Haussmann building
Delivered on behalf of a private client, our competition proposal focused on a forthcoming major office renovation within a traditional Haussmann building – located in a historically significant area of Paris.
With lots of design factors to consider, the RBA team embraced the challenge with open arms. See how we did, here.
- A Christmas party to remember
Just before the latest Covid restrictions were put in place, the RBA team boarded ‘Mr Pélican’ for the annual Christmas party.
It was wonderful for many of our Paris-based colleagues to be reunited under one roof and end the year on a high with food, drink, and merriment.
Finally, we’d like to say a huge thank you to all our colleagues, customers, and friends of the business for a great year, and wish you a very Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous 2022!
Please note, our Paris and London offices will be closed over the festive period – from Wednesday 22nd December to Tuesday 4th January.
We look forward to seeing you in the New Year!
